Fill of pit A-005, which is a large, shallow pit emerging from the western section of the trench. At the level immediately under the plough zone, there was a thin layer of pot, stone and brick just a few cm thick. Below this was a layer of compacted greenish-grey clay-rich deposit with relatively little material compared to the layers above and below with a thickness of 5-10cm. Below the greenish clay was a layer of extremely dense material primarily made up of Baked brick lumps (up to half a brick), stone fragments (many large, some worked), and pottery. There was also some animal bone, though relatively little compared to the great quantities of brick/stone/pot. Other objects were also found in this layer, including a stone incense burner, doughnut-shaped stone weights (one whole, one partial), and obsidian blades. This dense layer of finds deepened as the pit deepened, lying most thickly at its deepest point and thinning as the pit cut rises to meet the base of the plough zone. Below the dense layer of brick/stone/pot was a much thinner layer of the same greenish-grey clay as above. This coated the pit cut to a depth of 1-3cm and is likely to have formed as the passage of water from the surface washed clay from the layer above through the very porous layer of brick/stone/pot to settle of the surface of the pit cut.
